A 55-year-old man, William Gyamfi, popularly known as Kwasi Manso, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Sefwi Bodi Circuit Court for a violent attack on his younger sister that left her with severe eye injuries.

The convict was found guilty of assaulting his 50-year-old sister, Akua Agyeiwaa, during a misunderstanding at Sefwi Abrokofe in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.

According to proceedings before the court, the incident occurred on January 17, 2026, when a dispute between the siblings escalated into violence. During the confrontation, William Gyamfi allegedly attacked Akua Agyeiwaa and stabbed her in the eyes, causing serious injuries and trauma.

The victim was reportedly rushed for medical attention following the attack, while the matter was subsequently reported to the police. Investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, who was later charged and arraigned before the Sefwi Bodi Circuit Court.

After several court sittings and the presentation of evidence, the presiding judge, His Honour James Mensah Donkor, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

Speaking after the conviction, the Juaboso District Police Commander, Superintendent Isaac Otsin, described the judgment as a demonstration of the commitment of both the police and the judiciary to ensuring justice and protecting members of the public from violent crimes.

He noted that the successful prosecution should serve as a warning to individuals who resort to violence in resolving disputes, emphasizing that the law will deal firmly with offenders.

Superintendent Otsin further urged the public to seek lawful and peaceful means of settling disagreements, particularly within families and communities, rather than resorting to acts of aggression that could result in serious injury or loss of life.

The conviction has been welcomed by residents in the area, who expressed hope that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others and help promote peaceful coexistence in the community.
