A 50-year-old driver has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality following charges of drunk and dangerous driving.

The decision was taken after the court reviewed evidence showing that the suspect operated a vehicle recklessly while under the influence of alcohol, endangering the lives of other road users.

According to court proceedings, the driver’s actions posed serious risks to public safety, prompting law enforcement to arrest him and initiate formal charges. The presiding judge ordered that the suspect remain in police custody pending further investigations, allowing authorities additional time to gather evidence and prepare the case for subsequent hearings.

The case has sparked concern among residents and road safety advocates, who highlight the rising incidents of reckless and drunk driving on Ghana’s roads. Many have called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and heavier penalties to discourage such dangerous behavior in the future.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving to protect lives. Road users are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar accidents and tragedies.
