An Accra High Court has sentenced a 33-year-old man to death for offering his 2-year-old son as a sacrifice.
Sources available revealed that the man in question threw his supposed two-year-old son into the sea at Akuma Village, Accra, as a sacrifice in his quick move to become rich overnight.
The said judgment was given after a seven-member jury unanimously returned a verdict of guilty on Prince Acquaye, popularly known as Juu, who happens to be a food vendor.
The court charged him of murder.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Parliament repealed the death penalty a few days ago, but it was said that the new law will apply to new cases, not those pending.
The prosecutor indicated that Abigail Nyumor, the complainant, was also a food vendor and the convict’s girlfriend.
Reports say they lived with their only two-year-old son who is now deceased.
In February 2021, the prosecution said the convict made it known that the complainant should not get sad because nothing will happen to their son thus they were going to be filthy rich soon.
The prosecution again said that on April 20, 2021, at about 12 pm, the victim queried the convict to dash him money to purchase groundnuts.
Sources revealed that the convict offered the victim GH¢5.00 and on the same day, lured him to the seaside and threw the victim into the sea while the complainant was sleeping.
The prosecution said the complainant woke up later to some neighbours in the vicinity who informed her that the convict had thrown their son into the sea.
Available reports revealed the convict was nabbed, and the victim was retrieved from the sea and taken to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, but he met his untimely death the next day.
The prosecution said the preliminary probe indicated that the convict was initiated into occultism and asked to make a sacrifice.
The prosecution further said the convict chose his son as a sacrificial lamb by throwing him into the cliff at Akuma Village, which is 33 feet above sea level.
