Two police officers were shot and killed by suspected robbers while traveling on a motorbike at Poyamirea, near Binduri, in Ghana’s Upper East Region on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the attackers, who reportedly ambushed the plain-clothes officers as they journeyed from Bongo to Binduri. The robbers are said to have stolen the officers’ motorbike after the fatal shooting.
Authorities are yet to release the names of the fallen officers, explaining that their families are being notified in accordance with police tradition and custom.
In a statement, the Police Administration expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Commander, and colleagues of the officers.
“Our hearts and prayers are with you,” the statement read, adding that every effort is being made to track down the perpetrators. The police have assured the public that the individuals responsible for what they describe as a “heinous crime” will be arrested and brought to justice.
