The Director of Education for Asunafo South District, Mrs. Faustina Naana Forson, has expressed deep concern over the alarming number of final-year students in Junior High School (JHS3) and Senior High School (SHS3) who struggle with reading.
Speaking during a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshop for JHS teachers, Mrs. Forson described the situation as unfortunate and called for urgent intervention.
The workshop, organized by the Asunafo South District Education Directorate, aimed to equip teachers with improved teaching strategies and subject-handling techniques.
According to Mrs. Forson, the inability of students at these levels to read fluently is a significant issue that must be tackled immediately.
She emphasized the importance of prioritizing literacy in the education system and ensuring that students receive the necessary support and resources to improve their reading skills.
She urged educators and stakeholders to work together to strengthen literacy programs, stating that a strong foundation in reading is essential for academic success and future opportunities.
