The Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Abigail Elorm Mensah, has confirmed that three government vehicles have been retrieved from the residence of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Mensah explained that the recovery operation, which was carried out with the support of National Security operatives, forms part of a wider drive to reclaim government vehicles and loans from individuals who have defaulted.

“I have gone with National Security operatives to the house of the Chairman of the NPP in Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi. Three cars.

In fact, the cars were five. We’ve retrieved three. I have collected all from his house. We are still chasing him for the two. He has to pay for them,” she stated.

Mensah emphasized that MASLOC’s operational procedures require defaulters who fail to meet repayment obligations or misuse state assets to either return the vehicles or settle their outstanding debts.

“What we do is that once I seize the cars, the agreement we have with you is that you would have to repay whatever has accrued and we release the cars to you,” she added.

She further disclosed that several cases of asset misappropriation have already been referred to the police for investigation. As part of her revelations, she cited an incident involving a brother of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who allegedly refused to return a government vehicle after obtaining a personal one.

“I have a situation where a brother of former Vice President, Seidu Imoro, picked a car and boldly told us that since he had bought his own vehicle, we could come for the government one if we wanted it. So we’ve seized it,” Mensah recounted.

The MASLOC CEO underscored that the ongoing recovery exercise is aimed at protecting state assets and ensuring accountability in the management of public resources.
