In a historic moment for the Ghanaian and African casting industry, Mawuko Kuadzi, the visionary CEO of MK Casting, has been awarded the prestigious title of “Casting Director of the Year” at the Ghana Leadership Awards 2023. The ceremony, held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, celebrated Mr. Kuadzi’s outstanding contributions to casting, not only in Ghana but on the global stage.
The Ghana Leadership Awards with the motto” Love your country, love your people” is an annual event which acknowledges and celebrates outstanding and exemplary leaders with significant and positive impacts in advancing Ghana and Africa.
The highlight of Mr. Kuadzi’s achievements is his recent acceptance into the International Casting Directors Association (ICDA), making him the first Ghanaian and the third African to attain this esteemed recognition. The ICDA, a gathering of distinguished casting directors from around the world, focuses on promoting excellence in the casting profession, setting industry standards, and fostering collaboration among its members.
As the founder of MK Casting, the premier casting agency in Ghana, Mawuko Kuadzi has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to discovering and promoting exceptional talent across various entertainment mediums. The agency, which specializes in films, commercials, TV series, music videos, billboards, documentaries, theatre, radio, and magazines, has become synonymous with quality casting in Africa.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the awards, Professor Emmanuel Nash, said the award in 2023 honored individuals who have made a difference in their endeavors to inspire others to emulate their steps as well as those whose exemplary contributions have advanced Ghana’s growth in economic, social, political, health and leadership development.
Professor Emmanuel Nash in delivering the award to Mr. Mawuko Kuadzi, disclosed how his role as an international casting director has contributed in placing Ghana on the international map with several renowned casting jobs in Ghana and beyond.
In a conversation about his groundbreaking achievement, Mr. Kuadzi emphasized the collective victory for the entire MK Casting team. “I believe this win is a big motivation for my team, and will pave the way for greater recognition, collaboration, and opportunities for Ghanaian and African actors on the world stage. For me it’s a great recognition of our efforts in elevating the African film and creative industry and a clarion call for us to do more in the year 2024 and beyond” he stated.
Other award recipients on the night included Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh who won the Most Influential Minister of the Year Award. Dr. Da Costa Aboagye, Director of Health Promotion Division of the Ghana Health Service won the National Health Leader of the Year award, Mr. Roger Quartey; Most Influential TV Producer of the year, the African Chamber of Content Producers also won the Content Producers of the year, Aboagye Daniel; best STEM teacher.
Other awardees for the Ghana Leadership Awards 2023 are: COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah (Mrs); Executive Director, Economic And Organized Crime Office, Her Royal Majesty Mamaga Hude III Paramount Queen mother of Dzodze Traditional Area and Mama Nutifafa Dorla Worname II, Ewe Queen Mother of Ashaiman, Commandant, Military Academy Training Schools (MATS) – Major General (Maj Gen) Charles Kodjo Abede Asomaning Awity, HRM Torgbuiga Dzoku V, Paramount Chief Of Dzodze Traditional AreaRepublic of Ghana, Rev. Osei Kofi is a retired Ghanaian footballer, Lawyer Yaw Anokye Frimpong, a renowned historian, among several other dignitaries.
Beyond his membership in the ICDA, Mr. Kuadzi’s impact on the international film and television industry is evident through his extensive portfolio. His notable projects include collaborations with renowned directors and producers, working on acclaimed productions such as Netflix’s “Beasts of No Nation,” Amazon Prime’s original series “Treadstone,” BBC and Netflix series “Black Earth Rising,” and Ghana’s first feature film submitted to the Oscars, “Azali.”
In addition to his casting endeavors, Mawuko Kuadzi serves as the Theatre Director of HOGOF Theatre Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for education and social change through drama, music, and dance. His commitment to empowering the next generation of talent further solidifies his influence within the industry. With an illustrious career spanning six years, Mawuko Kuadzi’s keen eye for talent and dedication to the casting profession has set a new standard for the Ghanaian and African casting community.
