Medeama SC moved to the top of the Premier League standing after coming from behind to beat Asante Kotoko 2-1 at the Obuasi Len Clay on Saturday.

The Tarkwa lads who started the match on a sloppy note recovered to beat the Ghaian giants – to overtake them at the top of the log.

Asante Kotok took the lead in inside 12 minutes when Captain Emmanuel Gyamfi diverted Imoro Ibrahim’s cross into the net.

Gyamfi was left unmarked in the box and he punished Medeama by slotting home the opener.

Razak Abalora pulled two brilliant saves after wards to keep Asante Kotoko in the game. But the Ghanaian International was rooted to the spot in the 30th minute when Prince Opoku Agyemang fired home a terrific low strike with his left foot following a delicious pass from Captain Joseph Tetteh Zutah.

The equalizer did Medeama’s confidence a lot of good and with seconds to end the first half, they scored what turned out to be the winning goal.

Richard Boadu’s long-range drive beat Abalora after a deflection.

Back from recess, a compact Medeama side made life difficult for the Porcupine Warriors in their quest for the equalizer. They were resolute and compact in the entire half.

The defeat is the first under Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto – as Yaw Preko’s side overtakes them for the top spot.

The mauve and yellows have now moved to 36 points – from 21 matches while Asante Kotoko drop to second place with 35 points.
