The Medical Director of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital has been temporarily relieved of his duties following reports of a patient allegedly abandoned in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi.
On Friday June 14, the Ghana Health Service upon hearing of the incident held an emergency meeting and set up a committee to investigate the act.
Reports suggested that, the hospital after taking care of a patient for close to 2 months with no relative visiting the hospital to ask of her decided to take her to Gomoa Ojobi where she claimed to be her hometown.
It was further alleged that the woman was dumped in a bush by an ambulance from the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba where she eventually died.
In a letter signed by the Director-General of GHS, Patrick Kuma-Aboagye updating the public and the Minister of Health on the incident on Friday, June 14, said it has began investigation into the matter and “to ensure credibility and unfettered access to all relevant information, the Medical Director has temporarily been relieved of his post pending the outcome of the investigation.”
The committee is made up of the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Health Service, a senior nurse manager, representative from the social welfare department, representative from the ministry of health and a consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
He also assured that the appropriate action would be taken at the end of the enquiry to ensure that persons connected with the unfortunate incident were brought to book.
