Mfantsipim School, popularly known as Botwe and a prominent academic institution in Ghana’s Central Region, has emerged victorious in the 2025 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

This marks their fourth championship win in the prestigious competition, adding to previous triumphs in 1999, 2014, and 2024.

The defending champions secured the title with a commanding 56 points at the end of the fifth and final round, reaffirming their dominance in the academic contest.

This year’s grand finale featured a fierce battle among three top schools: Mfantsipim School, St. Augustine’s College (Augusco), and Opoku Ware School (OWASS) from the Ashanti Region. Both Augusco and OWASS are two-time champions, with Augusco winning in 2007 and 2019, and OWASS in 1997 and 2002.

The competition reached its climax during the riddles round (Round 5), where the Botwe team answered three riddles correctly, sealing their victory in dramatic fashion.

Final Scores by Round:

Round 1: Botwe – 20 | Augusco – 17 | Opoku Ware – 17

Round 2: Augusco – 27 | Botwe – 24 | Opoku Ware – 17

Round 3: Botwe – 30 | Augusco – 29 | Opoku Ware – 19

Round 4: Botwe – 42 | Augusco – 34 | Opoku Ware – 29

Round 5: Botwe – 56 | Augusco – 42 | Opoku Ware – 29

The journey to the final was not without drama. Earlier in the tournament, a quarterfinal match involving Mfantsipim, Adisadel College, and Prempeh College was postponed due to unexpected disruptions at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) venue.

With this win, Mfantsipim School continues to solidify its reputation as a powerhouse in science and mathematics education, inspiring future generations of scholars across Ghana.
