The Gyaasehene of Mim in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region, Nana Agyapong Beedu Brobbey, has appealed to newly turned 18-year-olds and adults in Mim who have not yet registered to take part in the Limited Voter Registration exercise.
His call to action comes in the midst of the Limited Voter Registration Exercise, which began on September 12 and is still ongoing at all Electoral Commission (EC) district offices across Ghana.
According to Nana Brobbey, Mim, situated in the Ahafo Region, is in need of district and constituency representation.
He has heard rumours that the Electoral Commission (EC) may create new constituencies ahead of the 2024 elections, and he sees this as a unique opportunity for Mim to secure its own constituency.
Given the high population of Mim within the Ahafo Region, increasing voter registration could influence the EC’s decision in favour of Mim.
Increased voter turnout in Mim can help the Government to create a new constituency.
He added that in Ghana, constituencies are delineated based on population size and geographical considerations. By bolstering the number of registered voters, Mim can demonstrate its readiness for independent representation in the national legislature.
Nana Brobbey also requested community members to help qualified voters, particularly with transportation to registration centres.
