As part of preparations towards the imminent construction of the Phase 2 of the Blekusu Coastal Protection Project, the sector Minister, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei and a team from the Ministry and the Ghana Hydrological Authority visited beneficiary communities that spreads on the shoreline in the Keta South Municipality to among other things, engage with traditional authorities and the people on the project and most importantly to assess the various interventions being put in place for residents in the communities ahead of the commencement of the project.
The Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defense Project, which will be executed by Messrs Amandi Holding Limited will involve the construction of robust coastal defense wall designed to protect a total coastal stretch of 8km to ensure that communities of Salakope, Agavadzi, and Amutinu are safeguarded from the perennial devastating effects of tidal waves.
Expected to be completed in 2029, the project will not just protect the communities from tidal waves, but it will also provide ancillary facilities such as a car park and lorry station, fish market, cold storage facility, fish drying and smoking areas, public washrooms and a waste collection system to boost local economy within the communities.
Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei took the opportunity to appeal to the people of the beneficiary communities for their cooperation in respecting the construction process, avoiding activities that undermine the project and the coast as well as maintaining the facilities that will be provided.
