As part of monitoring operations of the LEAP Grant Payment Exercise (for both 83rd and 84th Cycles) across the country, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu carried out a similar exercise on Thursday 29th June 2023 in North East Region.

She visited the Gaagbini and Nayorku pay points in the West Mamprusi Municipal in the company of the Hon. Arimyao Somo Lucky, Chief of Gaagbini, and a few officials to see the payment process and engage with the recipients.

Interacting with the beneficiaries, the Minister disclosed that there has been a 100% increase in grant amount to beneficiary households.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that any program for social intervention benefits the nation’s poor and vulnerable communities.

Madam Lariba urged beneficiaries to strategically invest the cash grant in both their businesses and their children’s education.

A household with one eligible member will now receive GH¢128.00 instead of GH¢ 64.00, a household with two eligible members will now receive GH¢152.00 instead of GH¢ 76.00, a household with three eligible members will receive GH¢ 176.00 instead of GH¢88.00 while households with four and more eligible members will now receive GH¢212.00 instead of GH¢106.00 as a result of the 100% increase in the LEAP cash grant.

Due to the dual cycles, all eligible households will receive double the regular cash support.

LEAP is a social cash transfer program for Ghana’s poorest households with the aim of alleviating poverty by fostering human capital development and smoothing consumption.
