Minister visits 11-year-old girl whose dad allegedly attempted to use her for money ritual

Following the arrest of Evans Oppong, a businessman, who allegedly attempted to use his daughter for rituals, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources/ Caretaker Minister for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection led a team to visit the family of the eleven (11) year old girl in Accra on Monday, 6th June, 2022.

Following the arrest of Evans Oppong, a businessman, who allegedly attempted to use his daughter for rituals, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources/ Caretaker Minister for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection led a team to visit the family of the eleven (11) year old girl in Accra on Monday, 6th June, 2022.

The Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister for MoGCSP, Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu, Chief Director for MoGCSP, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, Ga West MCE, Hon. Clement Wilkinson, Dr. Comfort Asare, National Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Dr. Anastasia Kpei Mawudoku, Greater Accra Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare.

The purpose of the visit was to enable the Minister and her team acquire first-hand information about the issue, assess the situation of the child and family and provide psychosocial support to the family.

During her interaction with the family, the Minister pledged the Ministry’s preparedness towards providing psychosocial support to the girl and the family. Adding that the protection and survival of every Ghanaian is of great concern to the government.

She applauded the Ghana Police Service for their timely response.

As custom demands, she gave a token to the grandmother of the girl, while the Ga West MCE will later deliver some food items to the family.

The Ministry also pledged to support the girl and family in diverse ways.

Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah tasked the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare to monitor the case and submit a situational report for the team’s attention.
