The Minority in Parliament has sharply criticised Tamale High Court Judge, Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange, accusing him of poor judicial conduct in his handling of the Kpandai parliamentary election petition.
Justice Brew Plange on Monday, November 24, annulled the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary election, citing widespread irregularities, and directed that a fresh poll be held within 30 days. The ruling has since triggered intense political reaction.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, November 26, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin described the decision as deeply troubling, insisting the caucus will resist any attempt to unseat incumbent MP Matthew Nyindam before all legal avenues are fully pursued.
“The judgment can only be described as breathtaking in its reach and alarming in its implications,” Afenyo-Markin said. “For His Lordship to void an entire constituency’s election without first ensuring that a complete, reasoned judgment was made available is not merely irregular — it is judicial irresponsibility.”
He further argued that the ruling amounted to what he called an “animal farm judgment” and warned that the Minority would challenge any effort to enforce the decision prematurely.
