The Minority in Parliament has called on the government to release full details of contracts awarded under its major road infrastructure programme, the ‘Big Push’, calling the move critical for transparency and accountability.

The call follows a report by The Fourth Estate that raised concerns over procurement processes, highlighting the extensive use of sole sourcing and potential cost inflation in the award of contracts.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, March 24, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Roads and Transportation Committee and MP for Akim Swedru, acknowledged that the Big Push, if adequately resourced and efficiently implemented, has the potential to significantly improve connectivity and open up key economic corridors across the country.

However, he said the recent revelations had sparked public concern and called for immediate clarification from the government.

According to him, publishing the full contract details, including the identities of contractors, the scope of work assigned to each, and the unit cost per kilometre, is essential to restoring public trust and ensuring accountability in infrastructure delivery.

“We strongly believe that the government must, as a matter of urgency, publish the full details of these contracts. This will give Ghanaians the opportunity to independently assess the policy and promote transparency in the execution of the programme,” he said.

According to the publication by the Fourth Estate, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, oversaw 81 sole-sourced contracts valued at over GHS73 billion within seven months.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Ghana GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has defended the government’s use of sole sourcing for critical road projects under the Big Push initiative, dismissing claims of abuse or inflated costs.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Sammy Gyamfi said there was “not a scintilla of evidence” to support claims of wrongdoing, insisting that all contracts awarded through sole-sourcing were lawful and properly approved.

He stressed that all Big Push road contracts awarded through sole-sourcing had received the necessary PPA approval and underwent Value for Money audits, confirming that there were no irregularities.
