The Minority in Parliament has raised concerns over the failure of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to be present at the debate on the 2023 budget.
Members of Parliament on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, began a debate on the 2023 budget statement presented by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
As usual, the budget which was presented by the finance minister on Thursday, November 24, 2022, will be debated before the President appends his signature.
However in Parliament today, November 29, 2020, the Finance Minister was absent and this has raised concerns from the minority caucus in Parliament.
The minority are of the view that the minister responsible for finance must be present and partake in the debate.
Meanwhile, the speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin said Mr Ofori-Atta is currently representing the country in Germany.
According to the Speaker, he has been rightly informed of the minister’s absence and added that his deputies will partake in the debate.
It is expected that the debate will focus on Finance, Agriculture, Trade and Industry on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, and continue on Wednesday with Communications, Energy, Roads, Works, Housing, Sanitation and Environment while Thursday, December 1, will be on Health, Youth and Sports, Education, Tourism, Culture and Chieftaincy.
