The Minority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticized President John Dramani Mahama for allegedly failing to adhere to proper parliamentary protocols.
The accusation stems from a letter sent to Parliament introducing three ministerial nominees for the positions of Finance Minister, Energy Minister, and Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
According to Mr. Afenyo-Markin, the communication did not follow the official procedures required for such submissions, which he described as a “breach of parliamentary procedure.”
Speaking ahead of the vetting of the first nominee, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, by the Appointments Committee, the Minority Leader emphasized the importance of maintaining procedural integrity in parliamentary affairs.
“We see this form of communication as problematic and inconsistent with established protocols,” he stated.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Effutu, expressed the minority’s commitment to holding the government accountable.
He pledged that the opposition would ensure the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government fulfills its campaign promises.
“Campaign promises are a social contract between the government and the electorate and must not be taken for granted,” he added.
The tension underscores the ongoing political dynamics between the ruling NDC and the opposition as Parliament gears up to scrutinize the President’s nominees.
