Minority says to petition CHRAJ to investigate Ibrahim Mahama

The minority has declared its intention to submit a petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), seeking an investigation into businessman Ibrahim Mahama and his company, Engineers & Planners.

This move pertains to their alleged involvement in the acquisition of the Damang Mine, as well as the utilisation of his private jet by former President John Dramani Mahama.

The caucus expressed concerns regarding purported irregularities and potential breaches of the constitution during the selection process for an investor for the Damang Mine.

According to the members of parliament, the procedure lacked transparency and fairness, thereby casting doubt on the validity of the outcome.

They contended that the entire process appeared predetermined, rather than being conducted through a genuinely competitive and merit-based selection system.

“The minority will not accept the government characterisation of this process as competitive. What we see is a winner being arranged and not selected.

“Under Article 287 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, any person may petition CHRAJ to investigate violations of chapter 24, and so the minority is formally considering a joint civil society organisations, professional bodies and concerned citizens on both the private jet and the Damang Mine process as two manifestations of the same constitutional breach.”
