The Minority in Parliament has suspended its planned protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies for mismanaging the central bank.

This comes after the court, hearing a police application to injunct the protest over security concerns, adjourned ruling on a preliminary objection raised by lawyers of the MPs to Friday, September 8.

The protest was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 5, at the Bank of Ghana headquarters in Accra, but police had argued that the protest could lead to a breach of the peace and asked the court to injunct it.

The court’s ruling on the preliminary objection is expected to determine whether the protest can go ahead.

The MPs, led by NDC’s Director of Legal Affairs, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, raised objection to the capacity of the Police to institute the action on their own accord.

According to him, per Article 88(5) of the 1992 Constitution and the State Proceedings Act, it is only the Attorney General that can institute the instant action.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has assured their supporters that the protest will be held after the ruling of the court is delivered.

Some groups such as the Democratic Credentials Network-Ghana have vowed to join the minority as they also believe the secret printing of about GH¢ 60 billion led to hyperinflation of about 54.1% has negatively affected the economy.
