The Minority in Parliament has said, it will summon the Minister for Education over what they say “Mismanagement of the educational system” when the house resumes seating on January 25, 2022.

Dr. Clement Abass Apaak is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and represents the Builsa South Constituency in the Upper East Region of Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the Minority, the Deputy Ranking Member of the Ghanaian Parliaments’ Education Committee said, it is very humiliating on how the government and the education ministry has been managing education in the country, especially the basic education.

“We will be able to summon the minister to the Parliament, and I think we will do just that, either to appear in the plenary which is an option available to us  or to come to the committee, but for us today, our position is very clear as the NDC side in Parliament” Hon Apaak stated.

At a coordinated effort, four teacher unions including the NAGRAT, TEWU, GNAT and Concerned Teachers Association Of Ghana are pulling strings and resisting the time table being introduced by the ministry of education and the Ghana Education Service.

The teacher unions are also arguing that the Ministry and GES did not involved the various stakeholders in the implementation of the new academic calendar.

Meanwhile, the PRO for ministry of education on tuesday, January 18, in an interview with Kwame Koranteng on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic Fm, refuted the agitations by the teacher unions and said, it comprehensively engaged all the stakeholders that matter as far as education is concerned in the country.
