Miracles Aboagye was questioned over alleged ¢55m IMCCoD irregularities — Deputy A-G

The Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has rubbished assertions made by Dennis Miracles Aboagye regarding his interrogation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) during his recent arrest and detention.

Following his release from custody, the spokesperson for the former Vice President asserted that investigators never quizzed him about a GH¢55 million financial irregularity.

Instead, he maintained that officials only questioned him concerning transactions totaling around GH¢9 million, a GH¢5,000 matter, and a procurement issue involving GH¢5.2 million.

However, setting the record straight during an appearance on TV3’s Hot Issues programme on Sunday, 26 July 2026, the Deputy Attorney-General dismissed Miracles Aboagye’s account as inaccurate.

He urged the general public to be circumspect and refrain from taking statements from released suspects at face value without thoroughly scrutinising the facts.

“Of course, he is completely wrong. He cannot say that he was not questioned about GH¢55 million. He is very much aware of why he was arrested and detained,” the Deputy Attorney-General asserted.

“Recently, Miracles came out to say that nobody questioned him about GH¢55 million but he was questioned about GH¢5 million and people believed that. Because Miracles is saying that, everybody believed that is the truth and nobody is interested in asking how do you even conclude it is the truth?” he said.

Dr Srem-Sai clarified that investigative authorities like EOCO are under no legal requirement to counter statements made by individuals under investigation publicly, as doing so could jeopardize ongoing inquiries.

He stressed that law enforcement agencies focus on collating evidence to present before a court of law rather than engaging in media spats.

“EOCO is not under any obligation to be responding to things like that. Law enforcement agencies are not under any obligation to respond. At the end of the day, we bring you to court, we will charge you and you will have your day,” he stated.

He further noted that whether officials interrogated a suspect about GH¢55 million or GH¢5 million is ultimately beside the point, given that formal charges will purely reflect the evidence gathered.

“Eventually, whatever we will find on you, we will bring you to court,” he said.

“I want the public to understand that, law enforcement because of the nature Of the work we do and because it is investigation, it is not everything that law enforcement can respond to but that doesn’t also mean that lack of responding to some of these things means that the person who is saying it is right or correct,” he explained.
