A 21-year-old mobile money vendor, Desmond Adzah, was tragically shot and killed by suspected armed robbers on the evening of Wednesday, July 9, at Quarters Junction, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfrom in the Ga South Municipality.

Desmond was reportedly heading home around 7:00 p.m. after closing his shop when unidentified gunmen ambushed and shot him multiple times. He was rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfrom Polyclinic but died shortly after.

Eyewitness Ruben Kumor, who had just spoken with Desmond minutes before the incident, described him as a familiar face in the area and expressed shock over the killing. He also raised concerns about the lack of police visibility in the community, despite the presence of a nearby station.

“There’s hardly any night patrol. Even assigning community police would help. Desmond was attacked just after closing. This shouldn’t happen,” Kumor lamented.

Desmond’s sister, Erica Adzah, believes the killing was premeditated and possibly carried out by people known to him.

“From what we’ve heard, he was followed. Some say the suspects were his friends. After taking his bag, they shot him because he recognized them,” she explained, calling for a thorough investigation.

She added that Desmond tried to seek help from their family home nearby, but continued gunfire prevented anyone from stepping outside.

Both the bereaved family and community members are urging the police to take immediate action to arrest the perpetrators and enhance security to prevent similar incidents in the future
