Botswana made a shocking entry into the quarter-finals of the 2022 Total Energies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
They were in Group C with defending champions South Africa and fellow newbies Burundi.
They are one of the 4 debutants who made it to the biennial women’s football tournament.
The Mares gained 3 points in 3 matches winning 4-2 against Burundi and 2-0 against Nigeria and 1-0 against COSAFA mates South Africa to qualify as one of the third-best teams.
Coach Gaoletlhoo Nkutlwisang’s side finished 3rd in Group C while South Africa gained a perfect score of 3 victories in 3 matches to occupy the top spot.
Meanwhile, defending champions Nigeria, left it late as they won their 2nd and 3rd matches to get 6 points at the second position.
The quarter finals will be played on 13th and 14th of July, 2022.
