Morocco has been announced as the country to host the men’s Club World Cup set to be played in February 2023.
The announcement was made by FIFA president Gianni Infantino at a FIFA press conference on Friday, December 16, 2022.
The decision according to the FIFA president was approved by the FIFA council at its last meeting.
The seven-club tournament will take place from February 1 to 11, 2023 in Morocco, making it the third time they are hosting the FIFA Club World Cup.
Infantino also revealed that an extended version of the competition is scheduled to take place in 2025, with 32 teams expected to feature.
“We had agreed a few years ago to have a new men’s world cup of 24 teams, which should have taken place in 2021. This event was postponed because of Covid,” Infantino said.
“The new men’s club world cup will therefore take place in 2025, and will feature 32 teams,” he added.
The competition, which is set to continue with the seven teams will have Real Madrid, Flamengo, Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia, Seattle Sounders from the United States, Auckland City from Switzerland, and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco all battle it out in the North African country.
