Morocco has recorded one of the most historic wins in football, after beating Portugal to reach the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Portugal started off the match with much enthusiasm, attacking and pressing the Moroccan side high up in their half, and looked the better side to get the first goal of the game but Morocco kept their cool, waiting for their moment to punish the Portuguese side.
With just a few minutes to the end of the first half, Youssef En-Nesyri finished off a fine cross from Yahya Attiat-Allah to give the Atlas Lions a 1-0 lead.
Bruno Fernandes came close to getting the equalizer for Portugal just minutes later but was unlucky as his effort struck the crossbar.
The second half was nerve-racking for Morocco as they set out to defend their 1-0 lead, with Portugal threatening for the equalizer but failed to get a goal.
Morocco striker Walid Cheddirawas dismissed after receiving a second yellow card in the eight minutes of added time, but Portugal was unable to score an equalizer, ending their hopes of making the last four.
The match ended 1-0 in favour of Morocco as they become the first African side to reach the semi-final in World Cup history.
Walid Regragui’s men will now face England or France in the last four.
