Morocco have withdrawn from participating in the CHAN 2022 tournament that is set to kick off in Algeria on Friday, January 13, 2023.
The decision is a result of Algeria’s refusal to allow the defending champions to fly directly from Rabat to Algiers.
According to media reports, Morocco last year submitted a request through the Confederation of African Football (CAF), for Algeria to allow their team to fly to Constantine, where Morocco are scheduled to take part in Group C with Ghana, Sudan and Madagascar.
However, with less than 2 hours to the start of the competition, Morocco have officially announced that they will not take part in the competition.
Group C, which has Ghana, Sudan and Madagascar, will now be without the defending champions.
