Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has paid tribute to mothers in Ghana and around the world as part of this year’s Mother’s Day celebrations, describing them as the backbone of society.

In a Facebook message shared on Sunday, May 10, the Vice President applauded the strength, sacrifice, wisdom and unconditional love demonstrated by mothers, noting that their resilience continues to shape and inspire generations.

“Today, we recognise the strength, sacrifice, wisdom and unconditional love of mothers across Ghana and around the world,” she stated.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang said mothers remain central to the stability of families, communities and economies through their constant care, support and dedication.

She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the welfare of women and mothers through policies focused on empowerment, dignity and equal opportunities.

Among the initiatives she highlighted were the establishment of 24-hour markets and the Women’s Development Bank, which she said are intended to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for women.

The Vice President further pointed to investments in skills training, apprenticeship programmes, improved access to finance and the nationwide distribution of free sanitary pads to schoolgirls as key interventions aimed at supporting women and young girls.

She also acknowledged grandmothers, guardians and all women who serve as mother figures in society.

“Your love and service do not go unnoticed,” she added, while extending Mother’s Day wishes and prayers for blessings upon mothers everywhere
