Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, has assured the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) of his commitment to accelerating development and improving the welfare of military personnel.
He made this pledge during his maiden visit to Burma Camp in Accra, where he was warmly received by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, along with Service Chiefs, senior officers, and other key military officials.
Accompanied by his Chief Director, Mr. Lawoetey Tettey, the Minister emphasized the need to build upon the strong foundations laid by his predecessors.
Commending the Ghana Armed Forces for its steady progress, Dr. Omane Boamah stressed the importance of motivating military personnel to ensure optimal performance.
He acknowledged the critical role of the Armed Forces in national security and development, pledging to support their needs in terms of logistics, training, and infrastructure.
General Oppong-Peprah reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defending Ghana’s territorial integrity while also contributing to national development through its specialized corps, including the Engineer, Medical, and Education units.
He assured the Minister that GAF personnel would continue to uphold professionalism, discipline, loyalty, and integrity in their service to the nation.
As part of his visit, Dr. Omane Boamah toured the various Service Headquarters, where he engaged with Lieutenant General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, Chief of the Army Staff; Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, Chief of the Naval Staff; and Air Marshal Frederick Kwasi Asare Bekoe, Chief of the Air Staff.
The Defence Minister also inspected ongoing projects at Burma Camp, including the Duala Redevelopment Project, the National College of Defence Studies (NCDS) Complex, and the construction of the Duala Hospital.
Additionally, he visited new accommodation and classroom facilities at the Ghana Military Academy.
Dr. Omane Boamah’s visit underscores his commitment to strengthening the Armed Forces and ensuring that personnel have the necessary resources and infrastructure to effectively carry out their duties.
His engagements with senior military officials signal a collaborative approach to addressing the needs of the Armed Forces while enhancing its operational readiness.
