The Member of Parliament for the Mpraeso Constituency, Davis Ansah Opoku, has extended support to top-performing BECE students in his constituency.
During the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the MP pledged to assist JHS students who scored between aggregate 6 and 15. Speaking to Republic Press journalist Andy Frimpong Manso, Mr. Opoku highlighted that this initiative aligns with his vision to motivate students to achieve excellent academic results.
A total of 50 high-achieving students were awarded GH¢500 each, amounting to GH¢25,000. The funds are intended to help them purchase essential items as they begin their journey into senior high school.
Mr. Opoku stated that recognizing students’ achievements will inspire them and encourage those preparing to take the BECE next year to excel.
“We also make allocations for students with disabilities, regardless of their grades. This is an ongoing process, and through the Ghana Education Service Directorate, I hope to receive the necessary data to support such students,” he noted.
The MP emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the government’s free SHS policy, urging all students to complete senior high school to gain fundamental education.
“We are working to secure scholarships for brilliant but needy students, with the support of the government. We facilitate connections with the scholarship secretariat to ensure these students can pursue tertiary education,” Mr. Opoku added.
He also commended Dr. Yaw Adutwum, the Minister of Education, for his efforts in improving the computer placement system and introducing innovative measures in the education sector.
Additionally, the Education Director for Kwahu South, William Nyarko Frempong, personally supported six high-performing students with GH¢500 each.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the MP for his unwavering support of education in the district.
