The Constituency executives for the New Patriotic Party in Mpraeso have met with the Party’s TESCON chapter of the Atibie Nursing And Midwifery Training College to discuss matters that are of coordinated interest to the students and the party.
The engagement was meant to usher new members to Atibie NMTC TESCON Mpraeso chapter and the NPP party at large.
Speaking in an interview with Republic FM’s Andy Frimpong Manso, the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Hon. Davis Ansah Opoku (OPK), made known that there was the need for the party to meet with the TESCON chapter to explain matters of governance and the government’s decision to go to the IMF for an economic bailout and its financial discrepancies in recent times.
“Today we met with the allied political youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (TESCON), in the various Tertiary institutions and we have only one of such in the constituency which is the Atibie Nursing and Midwifery school. It’s something we usually do but there was the need to meet and discuss with them issues especially matters of the governance, and the government’s position to go to IMF, especially in the business aspects of the government. Already, I’m going round in the constituency to meet with the various stakeholders and the school’s TESCON is also one critical stakeholder I needed to engage and I’m very excited about the way they asked their questions which means they are interested in the issues of the state”, he noted.
Some of the student members called on the MP to speak on their behalf to Fast-track the payment of the 12-month unpaid allowance. Some of the students pleaded earnestly since most of them depend on the allowance to settle their school fees.
The MP in response pledged his commitment to ensuring that the relevant stakeholders are made aware of their grievances and make sure that they are addressed as soon as possible. He further called on all Ghanaians to support the government’s decision to go to the IMF. The MP explained to them that, the MP in its earlier engagement with the IMF will not cancel the student allowance, school feeding Program and free SHS as it’s been speculated.
The MP, however, donated ¢2,000 to the student to support their activities.
He established that the TESCON also forms part of the party’s machinery to help break the 8 in the forthcoming 2024 General elections.
22 years ago, at the Independence Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, celebrated statesman and Ghana’s Ex-President, H.E John Agyekum Kufuor inaugurated the Tertiary Students Confederacy of the New Patriotic Party (TESCON), undoubtedly the most vibrant political youth group in our Country today.
After the 1992 and 1996 elections, the NPP needed to harness its vital human resource at the Tertiary education level in building a formidable front to wrestle power from the NDC. It was this consensus that heralded the formation of TESCON in January 2000 ahead of the general elections in December. True to the vision and rationale behind its formation, TESCON played a pivotal role in the NPP’s Victory in the 2000 general election. It has since then played key roles in successive elections, establishing itself as one of the most vital components of the NPP’s electoral machinery.
22 years down the line, TESCON has established itself as a generational pillar; a training ground for most of the young political leaders we have in the Country today. It has today become a part of the NPP’s mainstream organizational structure with TESCON forming part of the party’s electoral college at all key levels of the organization. Today, it remains one of the most progressive units of the party which is training many budding talents of its tradition.
These huge gains after two decades are indeed worth celebrating. The party salute the young men and women led by Francis Asenso-Boakye, the inaugural president who rose to the occasion in the year 2000 to inaugurate TESCON.
Their efforts birthed the most progressive youth front in the Country and the party’s tradition will forever be grateful to them. The party also salute all of its wonderful men and women, past and present leaders and activists of TESCON who have kept the faith and brought TESCON this far.
It’s equally grateful to the many stalwarts and figures in our party who have provided immense support and guided the TESCON journey all these years. It further extended its gratitude to H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, President of the Republic.
