The Minister-designate for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye has suggested to Parliament to institute a Medical Week in every Meeting of Parliament to screen Members of Parliament thoroughly to help prevent sudden deaths among the Legislators.

According to the nominee who is a former MP for Ledzokuku Constituency in the Greater-Accra Region, the health status of the MPs after going through the medical screening can be categorised into three groups namely Red, Gold and Green so that those who are at risk can be given special care.

Dr. Okoe Boye made this suggestion when he appeared before the Appointments Committee and was quizzed on what can be done about the sudden death of MPs in relation to their hectic work.

Commenting on the poor health status of former Members of Parliament, Dr. Okoe Boye was of the view that the cost of medical bills makes it almost impossible for former MPs to access health care.

Again he suggested that a special card can be designed and issued to former MPs to access both Primary and Tertiary Hospital facilities and the cost submitted to Parliament.

“Mr. Chairman former MPs should be given this privilege until their untimely death and Parliament can do this, its a matter of making sure that the privilege is not abused” he stated.

The Appointment Committee led by Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu also vetted Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, the Minister-designate for the Greater Accra Region.

He assured the Committee, he would continue with the good work started by his predecessors to keep the City clean.

He added that the Assemblies have to check the cooking places of all food vendors at the roadsides and he will take charge of that when he is given the nod as the Regional Minister.
