Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, has sworn in a 15-member Governing Council of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at the Ministry of the Interior’s Conference Room, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance disaster risk management.

In his address, the Minister emphasized the critical role of NADMO in safeguarding lives and livelihoods before, during, and after disasters. He highlighted the organization’s importance in ensuring national resilience and stability, particularly in the face of natural disasters, health emergencies, and human-induced crises.

The Minister charged the newly sworn-in Governing Council to provide policy direction and support NADMO’s management in achieving its strategic objectives. He emphasized the need for people-centered operations, ensuring that communities are at the heart of disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and risk reduction efforts.

Hon. Muntaka also urged the Council to work together as a united team, guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, professionalism, and patriotism. He encouraged them to be bold in their decisions, inclusive in their approach, and strategic in their oversight.

Assuring the Council of the Ministry’s full support, the Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration in disaster management. He noted that the Ministry would work closely with NADMO and other relevant agencies to ensure that the organization is well-resourced and equipped to respond to disasters effectively.

The Minister expressed confidence that the Council would rise to the challenge and make a meaningful impact in the lives of Ghanaians.

The Chairman of the Council, Hon. Samuel Atta Mills, called for collaboration in tackling disasters, noting that disaster management encompasses not only responding to disasters but also building resilience. He emphasized that the Council will be proactive in managing disasters in the country.
