The burial of the late Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, is scheduled for today, August 7, 2025  in Tamale.

The solemn event will begin with Janaza prayers at the Anbariya Islamic Institute in Nyanshegu, followed by interment at the Zujung Cemetery.

The arrangements follow Islamic tradition, which calls for prompt burial of the deceased. Dr Murtala Mohammed was among eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in a Ghana Armed Forces Z9 helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The aircraft, which departed Accra for Obuasi in the morning, was reported missing before it was later found destroyed in a crash that left no survivors.

Government has since directed that all national flags fly at half-mast in honour of the late minister and the other victims of the military aviation tragedy. The sudden loss of Dr Murtala Mohammed, a respected public servant and lawmaker, has been met with nationwide mourning and tributes from across the political spectrum.

The funeral announcement was jointly made by the families of Alhaji Ibrahim Zeng and prominent political and regional figures including Hon. Haruna Iddrisu (MP for Tamale South and Minister for Education), Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini (MP for Tamale North), Hon. Attah Issah (MP for Sagnarigu), Hon. Ali Adolf Mburidiba (Northern Regional Minister), and Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro (Mayor of Tamale).

Also associated with the arrangements are Alhaji Sharif Savannah, Alhaji Baba Sambii, and Afa Abdul Somed Faarukiya. They have all extended an invitation to the general public, party sympathisers, constituents, and well-wishers to join in offering final prayers and paying their last respects to a man they described as a beloved son and national leader.

May the soul of our beloved brother rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
