Hiplife musician Maradona Adjei Yeboah, known as Guru, has won the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) presidential election at the University of Ghana, securing 50.7% of the votes (9,455) with a voter turnout of 18,659.
His campaign faced significant hurdles, including disqualifications and legal disputes. Last week, the Appeals Board overturned his disqualification, which had been based on his non-resident status.
Initially, the SRC argued that Guru and another candidate didn’t meet the qualifications, and a judicial board upheld the disqualification.
However, the Vice Dean later instructed that both candidates and their running mates be included on the ballot.
The election proceeded today, and Guru’s administration is set to lead the SRC for the 2024/25 academic year.
