John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to ensure that significant government funding is allocated to Ghana’s educational sector if elected president.
He made the promise while speaking at a special public lecture titled “An Interaction with Students and Faculty of WIUC-Ghana” at Wisconsin International University College in Accra on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
According to Mr. Mahama, the investment will prioritise basic education, which he sees as a critical foundation for improved performance at the senior high school level.
“My administration will promote and prioritize investment in education, particularly at the basic education level. I commit myself to strengthening basic level education because if the pre-school and primary level of education that provide foundational learning opportunities are weak, performance at the secondary level will continue to be a challenge, he said.
He also stated that his government will work hard to end the menace of schools under trees in rural areas.
“The next NDC government will invest heavily in the construction and renovation of schools, with particular focus on under-served and rural areas. We’ll continue our programme to remove schools under trees and provide furniture for children at the basic level.”
