The Tema West Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Isaac Robert Pobee, has disclosed that his life is under threat
He claimed that he has received a total of nine (9) different life-threatening messages which is making him uncomfortable and also has rendered him a โfugitive.โ
According to him, his life has been under threat since Sunday, July 11, 2021, after he received a strange call, but said he could not tell who was behind and the motivation for those life-threatening messages.
“I don’t have anyone in mind or anyone I suspect but all I know is that it has happened recently in the constituency where an NDC Constituency Women Organiser was threatened and later her house was set ablaze. We have lodged a complaint with the police and yet to be updated,” he disclosed in an interview with myrepubliconline.com.
Consequently, Mr Pobee called for police protection and visibility in the constituency to avert any chaos or loss of life.
He emphatically stated that he does not suspect anyone from neither his party (NDC) nor from the opposing side as well.
He said the first message he received preceded a call directing him to read his messages.
He said he later decided to hang up only to realise that his phone’s message box had been inundated life-threatening messages from an unknown number.
โAs of now I have become a fugitive wandering for fear of my life. I have become a fugitive due to the death threat messages and I cannot tell who is behind this so I need to run for my dear life,โ he said.
Further, Mr Pobee recounted that he decided to hang up the call only to be welcomed with terrifying messages in turns.
“I was driving to somewhere (undisclosed) when a call came through on an unfamiliar number directing me to read my message, which I did and I saw loads of death threats messages. I became terrified because a similar thing was done to a constituency organiser, and later all we saw was that her house was set ablaze”, he frighteningly recalled.
“I decided to take caution and reported the case to the police in the constituency,” he said.
According to the NDC chairman, some of the messages were: “I advise you to voluntary give up your post as the chairman; I don’t talk too much but if you like try me!”
Other messages, he said, were “I don’t want to do like I did to Lamisi so I give you 1 week by Sunday next week if I don’t see your resignation letter you will Cry,” “See you soon.”
However, Mr Pobee commended the police in Tema and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for jointly being helpful.
