The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has ended the 5-day ICT training for 100 JHS Teachers selected from all 16 districts within the Northern Region.
The Training of Trainers forms part of the four components of the Girls-In-ICT Programme which is critical to the overall goal of the project.
In all, 1000 girls, selected from districts are expected to be trained by the teachers under the theme, ‘Girls In ICT: Digital Skills for For Life”.
The selection of 100 teachers was in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (GES). They are Mion District; Karaga District; Tolon District; Kumbungu District; Savelugu Municipal; Tamale Metro; Nanton District ; Sagnarigu Municpal Kpandai District.
The rest are Tatali District; Gushegu District; Nanumba South; Nanumba North; Yendi Municipal; Saboaba District; Zabzugu District
At a short ceremony held at Tamale GNAT Hall, the Northern Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi Natogmah Attah, thanked the Ministry and participants for a successful completion of the programme.
Hajia Katumi stated that they are therefore expected to share the knowledge they have attained from the course. “Though your workshop has ended today, but work has not ended, this is the beginning as you all go back to your various destinations”, she stressed.
Hajia Katumi commended the participants for their patients and comportment exhibited throughout the training and encouraged them to continue to practice as they go back to the respective communities in order not to forget the skills acquired.
She also advised the participants to protect and keep the laptops given to them to facilitate their learning while they are home since the laptops would be taken back for the training of the girls.
The Director for Human Resource Management at the Ministry, Mr. Austin Hesse, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Sector Minister, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP), expressed appreciation to the Northern Regional Minister, the RCC, GIFEC , KACE as well as the organising team for the support and commitment shown towards the programme.
He noted that Minister looks out for the same level of support from all stakeholders for the Training of Girls, Mentorship and Climax sessions.
Sharing experience after the, the Head of Quality Assurance who also doubles as a Lecturer at the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (KACE), Mrs. Mary Bamfo, stated that the commitment and contributions exhibited by participants was exceptional and that she was confident that same knowledge would be transferred to training the girls.
