The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tatale-Sanguli constituency has suspended over 50 members for actions deemed detrimental to the party during the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

This decision, announced on January 15, 2025, follows allegations of misconduct and betrayal that reportedly violated the party’s constitution.

In a statement addressed to the National Chairman of the NPP in Accra, the constituency leadership outlined violations under Article 3, Clause (9) (1), and Clause (7) (1) of the party’s constitution.

These clauses prohibit members from supporting independent candidates or opposing officially endorsed party candidates, with penalties including suspension and forfeiture of membership.

Details of the Allegations

The suspended members are accused of various infractions, including:

Supporting independent candidates during the elections, with some allegedly serving as party agents for these candidates.

Collaborating with opposing parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to undermine the NPP’s campaign.

Spreading falsehoods about the NPP’s candidate, which reportedly influenced the election outcome.

Among the suspended individuals are former constituency executives and grassroots organizers. The list includes prominent names such as Mr. Kwesi Npong, former Constituency Chairman; Mr. Peter Sandol, former Constituency Secretary; and Napari Prosper, former Communication Officer.

Leadership’s Statement

“After careful consideration and review of the evidence, we have determined that their actions have violated the principles and values of our party.

As a result, they are hereby suspended from all party activities and memberships until further notice,” the statement read.

The leadership emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity within the party, warning that similar actions would not be tolerated in the future.

Acknowledgment of Resignation

The constituency leadership also acknowledged the resignation of Mr. Godfrey Napari Wajah, Secretary of the Council of Elders, and his family from the party.

While expressing gratitude for his past contributions, the party wished him well in his future endeavours.

Looking Ahead

The NPP in Tatale-Sanguli reiterated its commitment to strengthening its organizational structure and upholding party discipline. This decisive action, according to the leadership, serves as a reminder to all members about the importance of loyalty and adherence to the party’s values.
