Security personnel at the Sangba Inland Checkpoint intercepted two individuals attempting to transport firearms and ammunition on Saturday evening.
The suspects, identified as Mr. Nlibe Otanpi and Mr. Balon Matthew, were traveling on separate motorbikes, one registered as M-24-GR 8872 and the other unregistered.
The officers became suspicious of a black drum carried by one of the suspects and an empty motor box on the other.
The operation, led by ICO Farouk Issaka, with support from ICO Ayer Solomon, AICO I David Consider McKenzie, AICO I Blay Ngolley, AICO II Fred Owusu, and AICO II Mumuni Muntalabi Marzouk, flagged the riders for inspection. When asked to open the boxes, the suspects offered the officers a GH₵20 bribe, which was refused.
One of the suspects attempted to flee but was apprehended after a chase. Upon forcing the motor box open, officers discovered two disassembled G3 rifles and 40 rounds of ammunition.
The suspects were handcuffed and handed over to the Tatale Command for further investigation.
Authorities have praised the vigilance of the officers and reiterated their commitment to ensuring security in the area.
