The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Rabito Clinic, Naa Prof. Edmond Nminyen Delle Chiir VIII, has challenged women to always ensure that the creams they apply to their hair and faces have no chemicals that will harm them in the near future.
Based on this, Naa Delle advised them to consult skin specialists such as cosmotologists and dermatologists before applying the creams and makeup to their faces because ‘your face is your passport to society.
Speaking at the 7th edition of the African Makeup and Beauty Fair, he said most Ghanaians use creams without standardization hence there is the need for education and specialization to ensure understanding of each chemical before use.
“For the past 50 years, I have been talking about skincare and as a dermatologist, I am in the position to understand and advise.
As much as we want our skin to be beautiful, we must be sure that its application will not damage the skin,” he stated.
“The skin is such that any chemical you apply goes directly to the brain and kidney because it is the largest organ of the body.”
He said many of the shampoos and creams we apply to the hair and faces have the potential to cause diabetes, kidney disease, and brain damage, hence the need for a special hair stylist or cosmetologist.
In her welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer of Makeup Ghana, Ms. Rebecca Donkor, said that for the past seven years, the AMB Fair has caused policy change and also connected 100s of businesses.
The two-day AMB Fair 2023 brought together key stakeholders in the beauty industry across Africa, such as brand owners and manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers of beauty brands, fashion designers and brands, professionals, and practitioners.
Others were traders, consumers, publicists, students; regulators, policymakers, beauty schools and other industry players.
Ms Donkor said the event showcased the latest trends, innovations and opportunities in the beauty sector.
The CEO said Makeup Ghana is a social enterprise creating a unifying platform for the stakeholders in the fast-growing beauty industry in Ghana.
The aim is to bring together makeup professionals, makeup brands, beauty retailers, and fashion and beauty content creators in Ghana under one umbrella to propel the industry forward.
The Director General of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, said one area where the government, through the Commission, is working hard to ensure it meets standards is the licencing of cosmologists.
According to him, the licencing regime and the continuous training of hair stylists to understand the product will help meet international standards and also help bridge the international market.
Speaking on the theme ‘Brands Beyond Borders: The Beacon of Economic Growth,’ Dr. Asomoah said that based on this, the government continues to commit more funds into the sector but appeals to Ghana to cooperate to complement the effort to grow the sector.
He said the government recognises the potential of vocational and technical education in the growth of the economy, hence the injection of capital to help streamline and grow it to create the necessary jobs.
