The Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, together with the Deputy Director General of Operations, Hon. Teddy Safori Addi, joined the President of the Republic of Ghana H.E John Dramani Mahama at Agavedzi, a vibrant fishing community in the Ketu South District, for the official sod-cutting ceremony to commence Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project.
Over the years, Agavedzi and its neighbouring coastal communities have been severely impacted by tidal waves, leading to the destruction of homes, loss of lands, and disruption of livelihoods, particularly for the fishing population. In his address, the President emphasised that the project aims not only to protect lives and property from future tidal waves but also to safeguard the fishing activities that sustain the local economy.
As part of the project, a modern fish market with cold storage facilities and a lorry station will be constructed to support fishers and improve transportation links, thereby boosting business and trade in the area.
The presence of NADMO’s leadership underscores the Organisation’s dedication to supporting proactive disaster prevention and building resilient coastal communities.
