Relief items worth thousands of Ghana cedis have been donated by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) on 4th April, 2022 to displaced residents of Anyama , Akplabanya and WekuMaagb3 communities in the Ada West District, Greater Accra Region of Ghana, to aid victims of the latest tidal waves.
The effect of climate change on the environment have resulted in more severe and frequent tidal waves along the costal belt of the country. Ada West District and its environs were not left out.
A distress call was made by the DCE of Ada West Hon. Samson Kpankpa to the NADMO Regional office on the 3th of April, 2022 reporting on the unfortunate incidence which has affected many lives in the Anyama, Akplabanya and WekuMaagb3 communities in the Ada West District, Greater Accra Region.
A presentation of relief items was done to the affected victims.
Present was the District Chief Executive, Hon. Sampson Kpankpa.
About two hundred and fifty people made of 72 male adults, 105 female adults, 52 female children and 24 male children were displaced.
The Relief items included bags of rice, pieces of mattresses, plastic buckets, washing bowls, pieces each of cups and eating bowls, bails of second hand clothes, cartons of soap, cartons of cooking oil, cartons each of mosquito repellant and mosquito nets.
Director General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh, said the coastal areas have been experiencing tidal waves for a long time now and says the only solution to this problem is to build a Sea defence so that, residence would be safe, which the authorities are already working on.
He also encouraged the residents that government is doing all they can to make this issue a thing of the past.
Residents are happy receiving the items but also plead with government to complete the Sea defence project so that they would be safe.
