The Supreme Court of Ghana has adjourned the hearing of an application filed by Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1, who is seeking to halt his ongoing criminal trial at the High Court.
NAM1, the embattled founder and Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, is requesting the apex court to issue a stay of proceedings at the High Court until his pending appeal is determined.
His legal action follows a unanimous ruling by the Court of Appeal in May 2025, which dismissed a similar application to suspend the trial.
The Court of Appeal had upheld an earlier decision by the High Court, ordering NAM1 to open his defence in the long-standing criminal matter. Dissatisfied with that outcome, NAM1 has turned to the Supreme Court for further relief.
At the sitting on Tuesday, July 8, the Supreme Court did not hear the matter. Instead, the court clerk announced a new adjourned date of July 29, 2025, for the hearing to proceed.
NAM1, together with Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult, faces 39 criminal charges including:
Selling gold without a licence
Operating a deposit-taking business without the necessary approval
Inducement to invest
Defrauding by false pretence
Fraudulent breach of trust
Money laundering
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains on bail while the proceedings are on hold.
The High Court trial has been temporarily paused, pending the outcome of the Supreme Court’s decision on NAM1’s application for a stay.
