Dr. Engr. Nana Otsiwa-Kuma VI, the Odikro of Egyaa No.2 and Annkobeahen of the Anomabo Traditional Area, has urged the public to demand substantial, long-term benefits from politicians rather than settling for small, short-term payouts.
He emphasized the need for the public to focus on their long-term well-being and reject insignificant amounts, such as ten or twenty thousand Ghana cedis.
Nana Otsiwa-Kuma advised citizens to stay vigilant in the upcoming December general elections, urging them to avoid violence and resist being swayed by temporary financial incentives. He stressed that the power lies with the people and their votes should not be traded for meager sums.
He also pointed out that many politicians send their children abroad, thereby evading accountability for any misdeeds.
He made these remarks during the grand durbar of the Otsirman Eguado Festival 2024 in the Mfantseman municipality, which was centered on the theme “Raising Generational Leaders for Transformational Development of Otsir.”
At the same event, Dr. Prince Arhin, the NDC parliamentary candidate, outlined his vision and commitment, stating that he would not engage in vote-buying with petty handouts such as fifty cedis, oil, or rice.
Instead, he pledged to address critical development and unemployment challenges facing the municipality.
In his remarks, Nana Munumkum Gyebir Abbam III, Odikro of Otsir, appealed for support to address the urgent needs of the Otsir community, including the lack of essential infrastructure such as schools, roads, and healthcare facilities.
The two-week festival gathered distinguished guests, including chiefs, politicians, natives of Otsir, and supporters.
