A total of 60 artisans, including six master craftspersons in trades such as hairdressing, dressmaking, electrical work and welding, benefited from the programme.

The presentation of equipment to the first cohort of apprentices marked a significant step in the government’s efforts to promote youth empowerment, job creation and skills development.

Addressing the gathering, Ebenezer Abeiku Essien, Regional Coordinator of the National Apprenticeship Programme, described the initiative as a major milestone in equipping young people with practical and employable skills.

He emphasised that the programme forms part of a broader national strategy to promote inclusive growth and reduce unemployment through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

According to him, investing in youth skills development is crucial to national development and should be seen as a long-term investment in Ghana’s future rather than an act of charity.

Mr. Essien urged beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment, including sewing machines, hair dryers, safety gear and toolboxes, and to use the opportunity to build sustainable livelihoods and achieve self-reliance.

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, assured that a monitoring team would be constituted to ensure the equipment is properly utilised.

He also encouraged parents to support their wards to pursue apprenticeship programmes to secure their future.

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government for the intervention, noting that the support had significantly reduced their financial burden and would help them establish themselves in their chosen trades.
