The Chairman of Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Driver’s Union, George Nyaunu has expressed dismay over recurrent incidents where drivers face assaults by the police force without appropriate actions taken to address the issue.
During an interview on GBC news, the Chairman revealed that attempts were made to communicate their concerns through a formal letter to the Inspector General of Police but expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of response.
Furthermore, the Chairman issued a warning, cautioning that the situation is escalating as there has been no opportunity for dialogue to address the challenges faced by drivers. He emphasized the urgency of the matter, highlighting the need for open communication channels to prevent the situation from worsening. The drivers’ plea for engagement and resolution remains unanswered, raising tensions within the community.
The drivers’ concerns about the lack of response from the authorities and the perceived harassment by the police are alarming. It appears that they are ready to take drastic measures to ensure their safety and protection while on the road, especially when transporting hazardous products.
