The Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has charged staff of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to commit more, work harder and be ready to defend the country from all forms of cyber-attacks.

This came up during a working visit to the Centre in Accra on Tuesday, June 1 2021.

In a friendly interaction, the Minister reminded the staff of the importance of their role to the digitalization of Ghana’s economy and the anticipated high demands of the institution; that she was hopeful they will rise to the challenge.

Hon. Owusu-Ekuful further indicated that the country will be depending on the expertise of the institution and its staff to educate the populace on the ongoing digitalization of the country and the associated cyber security matters that everyone must pay attention to.

In December 2020, the Parliament of Ghana passed the Cyber Security Act 2020 (Act 1038) to establish the Cyber Security Authority; to regulate cybersecurity activities in the country; to promote the development of cybersecurity in the country and to provide for related matters. Speaking on the Act, the Minster said Ghana’s Cyber Security Act, even in its early beginnings, has gained international recognition and it is being used as a model document by many countries.

She however added that, it was not enough to have a world acclaimed Act if it is not well implemented for the benefit of the people and the country and hence the need to work together to help protect Ghana’s digital infrastructure.

In a brief remark, the National Cyber Security Advisor and Head of the NCSC, Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, on behalf of the staff congratulated the Honorable minister for her reappointment and for her exceptional leadership role that led to the enactmnt of the Cyber Security Act.

He indicated that the goal of the institution is to operate a World Class Infrastructure that will protect and defend the digital economy of the country and its citizens.

He therefore assured the minister of the commitment of he and his team to work round the clock to ensure cyber security in the country.

The minister gave the staff the opportunity to make suggestions for the development of the institution and to also express their work-related challenges.
