The National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF), led by Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for its unwavering commitment to ensuring peaceful, credible, and transparent elections.
During a meeting at the EC office in Accra, NESTF expressed appreciation to EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her team for their effective collaboration throughout the electoral process.
The task force emphasized the strong partnership between the two institutions, particularly during critical stages like ballot printing and transportation.
NESTF assured the EC of its continued support in protecting all stakeholders, including EC staff, enabling them to carry out their constitutional duties without fear or hindrance.
Discussions during the meeting focused on logistical preparations for the December 7, 2024, elections.
Both technical teams reviewed distribution plans for election materials and addressed outstanding challenges.
NESTF expressed confidence in completing all preparations on schedule and reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining a secure and peaceful environment throughout the election period.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa provided an update on the Commission’s readiness for the elections, including the successful registration of over 900,000 new voters and the exhibition of the voter register across more than 40,000 polling centers nationwide.
She also highlighted the introduction of an online platform for voter verification, which has improved accessibility for the electorate.
Additionally, the EC Chair declared the Commission’s preparedness for the upcoming special voting exercise scheduled for Monday, December 2, 2024. She confirmed that the voter register had been prepared and distributed, while ballot papers for the presidential and parliamentary elections had been dispatched to police armories across most regions, with only the Northern, Bono, and Bono East regions pending.
The IGP commended the EC for its meticulous efforts and highlighted Ghana’s peaceful atmosphere leading up to the elections as evidence of the country’s readiness for a credible and violence-free process.
He assured the public of a secure environment where every citizen could exercise their right to vote without fear or intimidation.
Both the NESTF and the EC reaffirmed their shared commitment to delivering peaceful, transparent, and credible elections, reinforcing Ghana’s democratic values and setting a benchmark for the African continent.
