The National Peace Council (NPC) has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for honouring its appeal to return to the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
After the 2020 elections, the NDC decided not to attend IPAC meetings due to the alleged rigged election on the side of Jean Mensa and the commission.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the council, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, he stated that during a Post-Elections Stakeholders’ workshop organized by the NPC at Ada in 2021, participants tasked the NPC with facilitating the NDC’s return to IPAC.
The NDC publicly announced their return to IPAC during a stock-taking conference.
“On 14th December 2023, during a Stock-taking conference, organized by the National Peace Council at Peduase, as part of the preparations towards the 2024 elections, the National Democratic Congress responded to the appeal of the National Peace Council by publicly committing to return to Inter-Party Advisory Committee”, Adu-Gyamfi stated.
29th January 2024, however, NPC hopes their commitment will be maintained to strengthen democracy.
The NPC expressed its appreciation to the Electoral Commission, Political Parties, all Political Actors, and Stakeholders within the electoral management system for their support in promoting sustainable peace in Ghana, thus, urging all to use dialogue and consensus building to ensure free, fair, credible, and peaceful 2024 elections.
